I have got quite a lot of new stuff this week, which makes up for last weeks poor showing. Whether or not I can actually afford all of this stuff is another matter!
First up, is a 7″ released by The Shitty Limits, ‘Espionage’. I picked this up when I was in London, at All Ages in Camden. I spent so long in there looking at records, I could not have left empty handed, but couldn’t fit the Judge LP I had my eye on in my backpack or carry it round all day and then at the Blacklisted show, so I got this instead. Many have called The Shitty Limits the best punk band in the UK at the moment, and on the evidence of this, it isn’t misplaced. Featuring 3 songs, and at around five minutes this is a good taste of the band, and the fourth 7″ of theirs I have heard, all of an equally good standard. Espionage is great snotty, fast punk, just the way I like it. Check this band out if you haven’t already, they’re great live too. Links to their website is at the bottom of the article.
Also in All Ages I bought the September Issue of MRR. I’ve not read this yet, but it has an article featuring Raymond Pattibon, most famous for all the awesome Black Flag artwork and flyers that featured his work and became iconic in their own right.
I went to the Blacklisted show in London on the Thursday of last week. It was pretty good, (see the review for more) and I picked up the tour poster, which was screen printed and limited to 100 (apparently). It looks pretty cool on my wall anyway.
My friend who I moved in with recently picked me up ‘Black Coffee Blues’ by the one and only, Rollins for 99p in a charity shop. I’m reading it at the moment and it’s pretty warped and angry, but also really interesting, which you might expect! It also makes you feel more at home for hating people, and some of the stories featuring nameless city residents written in third person, featuring a lack of judgement or insight into the mentality behind are quite shocking, and thought provoking. Also here are several tour diaries, but I haven’t got up to that bit just yet. It was really cool of my housemate to pick it up for me as he knew I would love it. I still want to get hold of ‘Get in the Van’ and this book only makes me want it more! If you like Rollins you’ll have an idea of what to expect, this book showcases his somewhat unique way of looking at things, and like the man is full of charm and charisma, but also a whole load of venom. If you ever feel like an outsider, this book will make you feel less alone.
Also, this week some old Fucked Up 7″s I bought on eBay have come through the post. I’ve already got a couple of 7″s and 12″s, but I’m trying to track down some more of their back catalogue. Whilst you can get some of the earliest stuff on ‘Epics In Minutes’, some of the songs featured on this vinyl aren’t available on that and it’s much nicer to own the records anyway, especially as the artwork featured on these records is pretty great, as with all of the Fucked Up stuff I own! The artwork features a lot of imagery to do with cults and propaganda (Hitler and The Jonestown Massacre) with lots of foldout cards and stuff, straying from conventional sleeves, and featuring classic art style artwork, in relation to the songs content (again I’m proving I am not great at describing art) . One of them is the Haymaker split, but the rest are purely Fucked Up records, ‘Dangerous Fumes’, ‘Litany’ and ‘Dance of Death’, released prior to ‘Hidden World’. The Haymaker split is also on coloured wax, which is always nice.
Also through the post, waiting for me as i moved into my new house was a Public Image ‘First Issue’ LP. I love the metal box, and whilst this is a bit less consistent than that, and inevitably not quite as good, its still PiL, and still excellent. A couple of the songs sound like Sex Pistols tracks, but recorded inside cotton wool and given that its a first album, PiL are still finding their feet. Most of the tracks are experimental, bass heavy songs, much like Metal Box. Only given this a couple of listens, but i like what i hear so far.

I should have some stuff to write about next week too, as i’m off to see Paint it Black and Trash Talk in London, and I may be seeing Strike Anywhere here in Norwich! Also Rolo Tomassi release their album on Monday, so I want to get my hands on that too. Plus the Student Loan comes in, so I’ll be able to waste that.
