Issue 3 of my ‘zine is done and ready to buy!

Yep, after a delay that was really far too long, i got the thing done and its all folded and stapled ready for selling. I think its probably the best one i’ve done so far, and not just because it comes with a lovely green cover and is stapled!

Probably the best thing involving music ever…

Aphex Twin + The Grandstand theme tune.

Dead Swans, Twilight, The Ashes and Football.

All of these things aren’t really substantial enough for me to write an entire article on them, so i’ll just put them all together here.

Firstly, i listened to the new Give Up The Ghost… sorry Dead Swans record, all the way through. This now means i can spout off as much as i like about how its either ‘the best hardcore record of all time’ (i actually saw someone say that) or alternatively ‘rubbish, overrated, boring, average…’ whatever. Personally I think people slating it are as equally wrong as those saying how amazing it is. It’s neither. It’s alright, but it’s unlikely I will ever go out of my way to listen to it again. That’s more or less everything i have to say on the matter, as i know how people were waiting with baited breath for me to deliver my all powerful verdict.

Secondly, if there ever was a case for forced steralisation, it’s been dealt a massive boost with the existeance of this…

You shouldn’t need anyone to tell you why this is bad.

In other news England won The Ashes- yay! and Spurs continued their 100% start to the season with yet another win over West Ham.

More reviews up later…

Lonewolves- Carcaroth

Just a short post to tell you all that you should probably buy this. I featured a Lonewolves in my first ‘zine, and they’ve played both of the house shows i have put on, going down a storm both times. This is their first proper release, and their first for TDON and it’s been some time in the making. I’ve had a digital copy of this EP for quite a while now, so i’ve listened to it quite a lot, and its awesome, without a doubt worth the wait. Taking inspiration from bands like Rise and Fall and Integrity, this 5 song EP is UK hardcore at its best.

You can buy it from

Power Negi DIY

I don’t often talk about the labels which provide a platform for me to listen to the bands that I like, but I’ve decided to make an exception for a worthy cause. Power Negi Records not only has the best name for a record company ever, but also puts out a load of good shit. Continue reading ‘Power Negi DIY’

New Converge song…

I want everyone to stop what they are doing, Converge have a new song on their MySpace. Taken from upcoming album ‘Axe to Fall’ which is out October 20th, the track is called ‘Dark Horse’, and somewhat unsurprisingly, it’s incredible.

Listen now at www.myspace.com/converge

In terms of first impressions, its more technical than I was expecting, especially from the stuff I had heard live and the teasers etc. (view the teaser here… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nkxlq8-gog ) but they have sacrificed none of the utter brutality that they are renowned for. The structure isn’t too out there; it’s a pretty straightforward crushing 3 minute blast, so it’ll be interesting how the rest of the record fits around it. Its original, there’s clear progression, but it still sounds like Converge. How they manage to do this each time round, without dropping below levels of utter brilliance I’m not really sure, but I’m glad they can. The opening 5 seconds made me jump, and the song just gave me a tingling feeling all over. I’m well aware that I’m working myself into a frenzy, but it really is that good.

I can’t wait for the album now, it’s the first time I’ve actually been waiting on a new Converge record, and it’s probably as excited as I’ve been for a new album in recent memory. Expect me to go on about Converge a lot more in the coming months, as they look set to leave every other band trying this in their dust yet again.

I’m in Cornwall for a week

So no updates.

But when i come back i will have a round up of Fluff Fest, Reviews/Round ups from Limp Wrist, Fucked Up, Suicidal Tendencies, Bad Brains and all the other gigs i’ve neglected to review properly. Oh and some other shit about books and stuff.

And my band should have an EP people can buy.

For now i leave you with a video of Zero Boys. So fucking good.

Awesome.

You all know it’s true.

The best Morrissey interview ever…

All too often people dismiss Russell Brand, despite him a) being really quite funny and b) having done really good things.  This is one of them good things. Without a doubt, this is the best interview i’ve heard with Morrissey, and the most i think he has been engaged by an interviewer. He’s notorious for not really doing interviews and when he does it’s usually rubbish as the interviewer is a twat or fails to interest Mozza… it’s just boring really. Whilst at times this one strays into sycophancy- Brand is clearly a huge fan and makes no effort to hide this, he actually ends up getting more out of Morrissey than those who try to ask awkward questions. When he isn’t giggling like a schoolboy fan that is.  Continue reading ‘The best Morrissey interview ever…’

Nick Cave, Jello Biafra and Henry Rollins onstage together

I dont really need to explain why this video fills me with so much joy do i?

My favourite Bad Seeds song, Jello Biafra, Nick Cave and Henry Rollins TOGETHER. AND the fact that Jello is dancing like he is at a wedding, AND Henry looks like a giddy child, AND does the awkward thing that people do when they get on stage…. despite probably having spent a significant proportion of his life on a stage of sorts.

Here is Henry talking about that moment, at one of his spoken word shows. His impression of Jello is brilliant.

Wonderful.

I've always seen it as the role of an artist to drag his inside out, give the audience all you've got. Writers, actors, singers, all good artists do the same. It isn't supposed to be easy. Henry Rollins
